Welcome to the website of the Close Shave Chorus. We are a male voice, a cappella (4 part harmony) chorus, comprising 16 guys of a certain age who enjoy singing. Members come from various parts of the West of Scotland, but the chorus is based in Glasgow, Scotland, and we rehearse weekly, on Tuesday evenings, 7.30-9.30 p.m. during term-time, in Holyrood School, Dixon Road, on the south side of Glasgow. If you would like to consider joining us, you are very welcome to visit us at rehearsal.
We perform on a regular basis at charity and corporate events, music festivals, social functions and in various local drinking establishments, and are always open to requests for bookings. Most of our singing is done as a chorus, but we have a couple of ambitious quartets who also can perform as part of our concerts.
Whilst our forte is live performance, we have also ventured into the recording studio, and made, so far, two CDs.
We are blessed with a highly talented Musical Director, Eoin Millar, who provides the arrangements for nearly all our songs. Our repertoire is drawn mainly from the American popular songs written between 1900 and 1960; along with barbershop standards, we perform classics by such composers as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Rodgers & Hart and Hoagy Carmichael. Our repertoire has grown over the years, and our current concert set and back catalogue extend to around seventy songs, to which new arrangements are added on a regular basis by our MD.
